Multiples of 12

12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120

Multiples of 20

20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120

The smallest number available on all the lists is 

120

So, LCM(8, 12, 20) 

120.

Method 2: Prime Factorization

Here are the steps you need to follow to use this lcm finder method:

  1. List the prime factors of each of the given numbers.

  2. Compile a list of the prime factors identified, repeating them as many times as they appear in any one of the numbers.

  3. Multiply these prime factors together to determine the LCM.

Example: Find LCM(20, 36):

Prime factorization of 20

2 × 2 × 5

Prime factorization of 36

2 × 2 × 3 × 3

List prime factors as often as they occur most frequently

2 (twice), 3 (twice), 5 (once)

Multiply these prime factors together

2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 5 = 180
